From Belarus comes the instrumental trio Port Mone and the Ukrainian ethno band DakhaBrakha to combine their musical talents on this latest release. The album, "Khmeleva Project" was originally released back in 2012 on the Polish independent label Hermetic Garage, but is gaining attention due to the push of the Ukrainian agency ArtPole. The 9-song album has three songs that run past the 9-minutemark as the quietness of the songs like “Vesnyanky” and “Vanyusha” demand yourattention, but also allows your mind to flow freely. The opening song, “Kpyny”and “Dyado” are very upbeat and show the band in top form. While I’m notvery familiar with the World Music genre, songs like “Yelena” place you right in the heart oftheir country. The album closes with the 10-plus minute “Tonke Derevo” as PortMone add a dance beat to their music to give it a more general appeal.
Port Mone have a couple of shows lined up in March to takeplace in Lithuania and Poland. To find out more about this group, please visittheir website at portmonetrio.com.
